A Highly Educated Population
While Raleigh is home to North Carolina State University, a leading powerhouse in engineering and STEM-based professions, the greater Triangle area has two other famous universities to draw talent from. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University are located in Chapel Hill and Durham respectively. They form the two other “points” of the Research Triangle.

The Research Triangle Park
Originally built immediately after WWII, the Research Triangle Park (RTP) is an incubator for progressive technology companies and big ideas. Today, it hosts a number of world-renowned and major companies, including IBM, Lenovo, and Cisco.
RTP is actually one of the biggest research parks in the world, and is a key reason many millennials and job seekers of all ages are relocating to the Triangle.
A Unique and Innovative Culture
But there’s so much more to the area than just RTP! Big companies and startups alike call Downtown Raleigh home, with a number of new developments in the works. Red Hat is one such software company, employing over 1,400 employees in Downtown Raleigh.
Another major game-changer for the area is Citrix, which originally moved into Raleigh’s Warehouse District in 2014. In the years since, it’s added thousands of jobs and is soon planning to expand by another 400.
Both Citrix and Red Hat sponsor programs like the Raleigh Innovators Program, which provides entrepreneurs within these companies with the resources they need to create their own startups.
