Feeling Thirsty? Drink Local at These Top Triangle Area Breweries

When it comes to local beer, North Carolina is one of the best states around. While Asheville might be known as the brewing hub in the state, the Triangle area is also home to quite a few stand-out breweries, full of unique sours, hoppy IPAs, and rich stouts.

From a former airplane hangar to one of the coolest restaurants in the country, here are the top Triangle breweries to grab a drink at this weekend. Explore the area, and find your new favorite watering hole!

Aviator Brewing Company

A Fuquay-Varina based brewery, Aviator Brewing Company started off in 2008 in an airplane hangar at Triple W airport with just one employee. They’ve since moved their main base to a huge 23,000 square foot building in town, and expanded their operations to four locations. Just last year, they announced another huge expansion that will include a distillery, restaurant, four bars, pub bikes, and a concert venue!

We recommend trying a few of their top beers like the Devil’s Tramping Ground Tripel, the Hogwild IPA, or the Black Mamba Oatmeal Stout, then take a tour of their brewery to check out how it’s made!

Brewery Bhavana

One of the Ten Coolest Places to Eat, one of the Ten Best New Restaurants in the Country, one of the Top Beer Destinations in the WorldBrewery Bhavana has an extensive list of accomplishments and awards. The part brewery, part restaurant, part flower shop, and part book store has been consistently topping lists since it started in Downtown Raleigh in 2013.

Bhavana’s taproom offers 10 core beers, as well as a few seasonal and special brews. If you’re in the neighborhood, be sure to taste a few favorites like Grove, Till, and Bloom.

Little City Brewing + Provisions

Located in Downtown Raleigh, Little City Brewing opened just a few years ago, but has already made a name for itself as quite the destination. A creation of Local Icon Hospitality—which also runs stops like The Architect and Virgil’s Taco—they specialize in the staples and experimental seasonal flavors.

While their stouts and pilsners are pretty top notch, we recommend stopping in every now and then to try their limited-time offerings. Right now, the Plethora w/ Raspberry and Elsi Jalapeno Ale are a few of our favorites!

Raleigh Brewing

Raleigh Brewing started in 2013, but since then it’s grown to be the third-largest production brewery in Wake County. And, as it’s name indicates, Raleigh Brewing is dedicated to getting involved with and giving back to the Raleigh community, whether it’s through beer collaborations or local nonprofits.

The most popular beer that Raleigh Brewing has to offer is probably Hell Yes Ma’am, their Belgian golden ale, but you should also check out the Coffee Hidden Pipe Porter (made with Oak City Roasters coffee) or the Walter Imperial IPA.
